Dogs Without Borders Spotlight

Updated: Aug 26, 2021

Dogs Without Borders, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization, focuses on fostering and rescuing and rehoming small breed dogs in need from shelters. Throughout COVID-19, they have continued their mission to save as many dogs as possible, methodically placing them in their forever homes. The organization has a somewhat rigorous adoption process, as their primary goal is to “honor the needs of [their] dogs and place them with their best possible match,” according to the Dogs Without Borders website.

Throughout their time as a nonprofit, Dogs Without Borders has found homes for over 6,000 dogs. In the years to come, they plan to continue at this successful adoption rate, driven by their passion for dogs. Also, in order to achieve this goal even quicker, they welcome donations, fosters, and volunteers.

To volunteer, you must fill out a brief application on their website, https://dogswithoutborders.org/, which asks for contact information, preferred scheduling, and specific volunteering interests. For example, a few options include dog walking, fundraising, or grooming, though the opportunities do not end there either. Please visit their website for more information on the subject.

In addition, to foster a dog, there is a similar questionnaire that asks for contact information, your living situation, and your overall availability to care for the dog. The website also offers an incredible resource called “Fostering 101,” which provides information for almost every aspect of dog caretaking, ranging from separation anxiety to crating to resource guarding. In sum, the page provides hyperlinks to various “how-tos” and “dos and don’ts” while fostering. Visit https://dogswithoutborders.org/fostering/ to learn more.

Dogs Without Borders also hosts adoption fairs at Tailwaggers and Petsmart. These events require volunteers to help with greeting prospective adopters, walking dogs, or basic clean up. In terms of the actual details of the event, anyone is welcome to visit the adoptable dogs and can either foster, adopt, or take the dog home for an adoption trial. The two upcoming events are located at Tailwaggers (September 11 at 1:00pm-4:00pm) and Petsmart (September 26 at 2:00pm-5:00pm). For addresses, visit https://dogswithoutborders.org/volunteer/orientation/.

If you are interested in adopting, Dogs Without Borders shows dogs available for fostering on their website and regularly posts images of adoptable dogs on their Instagram (@DogsWithoutBorders) account, which has accumulated over 55 thousand followers, thanks to their adorable pups and admirable work.

In essence, Dogs Without Borders is an amazing local animal organization that is definitely worth supporting. Over the course of 15 years, they have saved thousands of dogs in need and will continue to save more every day.
