With the holidays looming near and families coming together, watching movies can be an incredibly joyful experience. For at least an hour, you all can squish on the couch--delicious snacks in hand--and watch a story come to life. So, here is an entirely new Paws for a Cause-curated genre of movie for you and your family to explore: movies about dogs. Plus, although dog movies tend to pull at the audience’s heartstrings, I can guarantee these entertaining films will leave you with an amplified amount of love for your pup.
First, a personal favorite and Chihuahua-lover classic is Beverly Hills Chihuahua. The trilogy follows adorable chihuahuas as they navigate their Los Angeles lives. The main character, Papi, voiced by George Lopez, embarks on drama-filled, captivating adventures with his family and friends. Some include puppy weddings, rescuing dogs from dog fighting rings, and competing in dog shows. This adorable compilation of stories will make for the perfect, family-friendly movie marathon. The best part: the actors are real chihuahuas, not animations!
Next, the animated movie The Secret Life of Pets is a hilarious film with notable voice-over actors including Jenny Slate, Kevin Hart, and Eric Stonestreet. This movie captures how pets act when their owners are away, filled with funny conversations and exciting adventures. The main pup, Max, happily resides in New York, until his owner adopts a new dog, Duke. They eventually wind up in a truck headed for the pound and must unite under the rule of Snowball, a formidable bunny rabbit. Along the way, the pups learn important lessons about themselves, each other, and humans. This movie is a must-watch for all ages!
Marley and Me, starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson, follows newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan. After their move to Florida, they adopt a yellow Labrador named Marley, who soon grows slightly rebellious. Though the furniture will inevitably end up chewed, Marley contributes great importance as the heart-warming star of the Grogan's young family.
Although A Dog’s Purpose may incite a couple tears, it is a beautiful film in which a young boy’s dog reincarnates for generations, offering solace and love to several families along the way. The main theme, according to BookRags, appears to be unconditional love. This movie will certainly enhance your love of dogs and appreciation of their endearing spirits.
In the end, movies are incredible ways to bring people together, so why not watch ones centered around dogs? And, if you are currently quarantining, you can always curl up with your own pup to watch one; no doubt they will be barking at the TV.
