A nonprofit organization created in 1997 specializes in saving cats and kittens in Los Angeles. They save unwanted homeless cats. Although starting only two decades ago they have grown to be one of the largest animal rescue groups in the Los Angeles area.
Their statistics live up to these standards as well with 181 at their sanctuary, 1,088 rescued and adopted since 2019, and 21,630 rescued and adopted since they first started.
They began when the founder, Sue Romaine, volunteered at the West Valley Animal shelter. An owner came in with a brown paper bag with a kitten inside, telling Romaine that he brought the siblings in the day before. She knew at that moment the siblings were euthanized because of their young age. She knew she had to save this kitten or it would be killed so she told the man “I will take it”.
